Nell’ultimo decennio il trasporto delle merci per ferrovia sulla linea Messina – Palermo è stato praticamente azzerato. Una delle poche relazioni tuttora esistenti interessa la tratta tra Pace del Mela e Messina Centrale e riguarda il trasporto di travi e di laminati lunghi in acciaio, c.d. billette, prodotte dalla Duferdofin-Nucor s.p.a. nel sito produttivo di Giammoro (ex Acciaierie del Tirreno).

The steel train (Photo of the Month no. 121 – May 2020)
In the last decade, the transport of goods by rail on the Messina – Palermo line has been practically shot down. One of the few relationships still existing is the one between Pace del Mela and Messina Centrale and concerns the transport of beams and long steel laminates, produced by Duferdofin-Nucor s.p.a. in the production plant of Giammoro (former Acciaierie del Tirreno).
In the photo taked by N. Spuria, a train composed of flat wagons loaded with steel beams and towed by E.656.041 locomotive in transit in the Rometta Messinese station.
