A 3rd Class ticket for the Holy Year 1950 (Photo of the month n. 125 – September 2020) Coming out from an old drawer, almost by chance, this ticket was issued 70 years ago, in August 1950, to my grandfather Vincenzo Copia, brings the mind back to imagine what that pilgrimage by train roundtrip from Messina to Rome must have been like.So the mind begins to fantasize ancient steamers, 3rd Class carriages with wooden seats, the journey times today unimaginable, the numerous stops, the summer heat, the slow flow of the many landscapes offered by the open windows….In short, a journey from the past that, with a bit of envy for my dear grandfather Vincenzo, I would have liked to do too!An affectionate thanks to my cousin, Nicola Basile, for having brought this precious testimony to light
