Negli anni ’80 le composizioni dei treni da e per il Continente erano lunghe al punto da impegnare quasi interamente le poche centinaia di metri che ancora oggi separano Messina Marittima e Messina Centrale. La foto di questo mese ritrae proprio questa circostanza. Essa illustra la “tirata” finale verso il Binario 8 della stazione di Messina Centrale di un convoglio appena sbarcato da una nave traghetto. In testa al treno la potente locomotiva diesel del gruppo D 143 con i suoi due carri scudo, un pianale e un bagagliaio a due assi serie Dm 99.000. In the 1980s the trains to and from the continent were so long which almost entirely occupied the few hundred meters that still today separate Messina Marittima and Messina Centrale. This month’s picture portrays this very fact. It illustrates the final “pull” towards Platform 8 of the Messina Centrale station of a convoy just landed from a train ferry. At the head of the train the powerful diesel locomotive of group D 143 with its two shield wagons, a flat one and a trunk with two axles Dm 99,000 series. At that time, travelers could also enjoy the interesting sequence of maneuvers for disembarking the train from the ferry leaning out of the windows of the carriages, while a large number of people was waiting at platform 8 the arrival of the train.
